Hi,

I’ve just got home from the Open Mic. Night – Richard Langridge Concert.

The evening was a great success and many of Richard’s family members gathered to remember him and enjoy an evenings music provided by local performers.

Richard was a lovely man and is sadly missed by all who knew him.

The evening was introduced by Simon Hollingworth (Drill Hall Creative Director).

Richard’s wife, Fran, donated one of Richard’s guitars to the Drill Hall and the guitar is hanging above the Richard Langridge stage in the Drill Hall Cafe for all to play and enjoy. I do hope all those who play it will remember Richard and make good music with it.

Then Helen and I “kicked off” the music with a couple of songs.

Next up was a singer I did not know – George Harris. George gave a first rate performance and I hope we will see him again soon at the Drill Hall.

Another performer I did not previously know was Barry Judkins, Richard’s cousin.   He played an emotive rendition of Wish You Were Here.

The other performers were all well known local artistes. Alan Bunn, Pete Gostelow, Dave Godfrey, Steve Jackson – who kindly explained the Strummer!, Will Gosling, Tom Lane, and two Itchy Fingers!

Dave Godfrey finished off the evening leading Richard’s family in a unique version of Country Road!!

I must also mention Mike Smith who was unable to sing tonight but helped me tremendously with the control of the PA and made everyone sound so great!

All musicians gave excellent performances and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.

All together an enjoyable yet poignant evening that I will not forget. Thanks to everyone. See you next year but preferably before. Pete
